Christmas gifts for one child in foster care

Six complete outfits for a foster child. along with socks, underwear, pajamas, a stuffed toy and a haircut voucher

I am Jamie. My husband and I have been foster parents for a few years now. Last year, two weeks before Christmas, we took in a six-year-old boy who had been taken into custody with virtually nothing.

This was his first time in foster care. His PJ’s were too small and he only had on socks and a light jacket when he arrived. The next day I took him to Ambassadors for Children. When we walked in he had no idea what to expect. We started looking at clothes in his size. He tried on a shirt, pants and a new coat. The look on his face when he learned he could keep these clothes…that they were his, no one else’s…was priceless. He then picked out more clothes to take home with him.

Our next stop was at Payless to use the shoe voucher that Ambassadors for Children gave us. He found a new pair of shoes with Spider-Man on them. He wouldn’t even take them off to leave the store! The sales associate had to scan them on his feet.

The thing my husband and I found most interesting was the fact he kept having one question for us. And that question was how was Santa going to know where he was. We reassured him that Santa can find him because we sent Santa a letter telling him where he was.

On Christmas morning he was so surprised that Santa DID find him! What a joy to see him elated to have something just for himself thanks to Ambassadors for Children’s Christmas Program.
