A Conversation with…Katy Haley
Katy Haley is massage therapist, nail technician and one of six Safe to Sleep volunteers who has been giving up sleep since the program began in 2011.
“The first two months were very hard to get used to and I wasn’t sure if this was for me,” Katy said.
Katy stuck it out with Safe to Sleep from the very first nights, hosting guests in an apartment near Commercial Street and through the move to Pathways Methodist Church.
“Katy has recruited several other volunteers, and has organized many dinner groups at the shelter,” said Safe to Sleep Program Coordinator Kelly Harris. “She does this all in the midst of a very busy schedule and always manages to have fun while serving others.”
Volunteering overnight for almost six years, Katy has had time to connect with the ladies who stay at Safe to Sleep.
“I found myself wondering how the guests were doing and if they were OK. You just get attached,” said Katy.
“The very best is when you find out a guest is getting an apartment, a job, or getting healthy. Even better, when you see a guest in public and they share that someone was there when they needed a safe place to be,” she added.
Thank you for your smiles and your service, Katy!
