In a heartwarming effort to keep children warm this winter, Crosslines, Glo Dry Cleaners, KY3, and Care to Learn collaborated to provide new and gently used coats for area children in need. Distributing an average of 500 coats each month since the program launched in October, the total coats distributed is projected at more than 2,500! Jaimie Trussell, Crosslines’ CEO said “Our friends at Glo Dry Cleaners have been so generous to clean at no cost, gently used coats donated for this important cause. Considering we just distributed 1200 coats last winter, that represents a HUGE investment on their part. This year, our partnership with Care to Learn allowed us to offer new coats as well, making a huge difference in our ability to provide for needy families. Thanks to collaboration between these amazing partners, we have doubled the number of children served!” With winter still in full swing, the program will continue through the end of February, ensuring that even more families receive the warmth they need.
The collaborative initiative brings together multiple organizations dedicated to helping those in need. Crosslines, the outreach arm of Council of Churches, has been instrumental in organizing distribution and assisting families. Glo Dry Cleaners has ensured that each donated coat is professionally cleaned and ready for wear. KY3, a trusted local news outlet, has played a crucial role in spreading awareness and encouraging community involvement, while Care to Learn not only donated coats but also partnered to bring awareness to the host of services offered through Crosslines. “We hear stories all the time about students who aren’t able to go outside during recess due to the cold,” says Krystal Simon, Care to Learn CEO. “That’s what we’re here for. We know a brand new coat provides a child with dignity and confidence. It helps them connect with friends. For that child, one coat makes a world of difference.”
“No child should have to go through winter without a warm coat,” said Kayla Grosshart, Crosslines Resource Specialist and “Coats for Kids” program coordinator. “We are grateful for the support of our partners and the generosity of our community in making this effort possible.”
The coat drive has already made a tangible impact, with families expressing their gratitude for the assistance. The program continues through February, giving the community additional time to contribute or benefit from the initiative.
