What is #IamMe?
In Greene County, more than 700 children are currently in foster care. These children often leave their homes with nothing more than a grocery sack full of belongings. A loss of family coupled with a loss of belongings diminishes their personal identity.
Three years ago during Foster Care Awareness Month, Ambassadors for Children began partnering with local organizations to bring awareness to the psychological and emotional stresses placed on youth in care.
By partnering with Ambassadors for Children YOU provide an opportunity for foster children to dress their personalities with new clothes, shoes, and essentials. They can pursue extra-curricular activities and receive needed therapies.
YOU encourage foster children to be their true selves. Your support reminds these children “I am worthy.” “I am special.” “I am me and that is all I am suppose to be.”
I AM ME empowers children and youth in foster care to love themselves.
Special thanks to the 2021 “I Am Me” sponsor United Healthcare.
ABOUT AMBASSADORS FOR CHILDREN
Ambassadors for Children (AFC) is an outreach service of the Council of Churches. AFC’s purpose is to encourage all local children in foster care to feel valued and loved by providing physical items and support that will, in turn, boost their self-esteem.
Eligible foster children come twice a year to the Kids’ Closet Boutique to select three complete outfits, pajamas, socks, underwear, shoes, and a haircut voucher. In the winter, children also receive a coat.
From the Comfort Closet, they are provided backpacks, blankets, and stuff animals.
AFC helps foster and biological families acquire mattresses, beds, and car seats.
Through other projects, they can receive help with sports expenses, music lessons, and other activities. They can find a special dress or suit for formal events and at Christmas, they never have to worry if Santa will find them.
Your donation provides foster children with new clothing, shoes, necessities, comfort items, and other items that bolster self-esteem.
Organize a New clothing drive at a church, a business, a small group or create a challenge between friends. Seasonally appropriate new clothing sizes newborn through adult is always needed.
Join the Foster Support group by helping AFC fulfill special needs such as sports expenses, music lessons, glasses, beds, car seats, medical expenses, and other activities.
Volunteer to shop, sort, and guide children through the Kids Closet Boutique.
