Emergency Women’s Shelter Moving to 3055 E Division

After thirteen years and tens of thousands of bed nights, Safe to Sleep is moving forward with a plan to establish a dedicated shelter space at the CCO campus, located at 3055 E Division!

Since October 2011, Safe to Sleep has been able to offer shelter every night of the year, thanks to the generosity of our partner churches. Special thanks to Pathways UMC, which has graciously hosted us for most of this time! Now, a portion of the CCO warehouse will be remodeled specifically to create a permanent shelter space for unsheltered women in Southwest Missouri.

“We couldn’t be more excited to partner with the City of Springfield and the Missouri Department of Economic Development to create a permanent home for the Safe to Sleep Shelter.” Says Jaimie Trussell, CEO of Council of Churches the parent organization of Safe to Sleep. “There is nothing like what we do in Southwest Missouri, and operating from borrowed space has always made our future uncertain. The renovation of our existing space will ensure that Safe to Sleep can not only continue to serve, but also presents the best option for connecting our guests with the wide variety of resources available within Council of Churches as well as the local community.”

Under the guidance of Paragon Architecture and R.E. Smith Construction, the target for completion in late 2025. While final costs are still being estimated, the project is anticipated to cost less than three million dollars and provide shelter for up to fifty guests each night, a limit required by city code. 2.2 million in funding has already been secured through ARPA grants provided by the City of Springfield and the Missouri Department of Economic Development, though many opportunities for donors to participate in the campaign, to bring Safe to Sleep to the “Next Levell” of sustainability will be available.

“It’s an honor to serve as the hands and feet of Jesus through this ministry, and we are grateful to each of you for your dedication, prayers, and support. says Jessica Luraas, Assistant Program Director. Director Kelly Harris adds, “We’re excited to see what God has in store as we continue to serve the women in our community together.”
