Transforming Lives Through Compassion

Recently, a young mother walked into our center with a “deer in the headlights” look, desperate for help. She had heard that we provided food but had no idea about the process or the range of services we offered. She was scared and anxious, having run out of food and her next food stamps still a week away.

During her intake, we discovered that she not only had a child in need of diapers but also another child whose birthday was that very day! Without hesitation, Chelsea, the program coordinator for Wish I May birthday support program, dropped everything to put together a special “birthday bag” while we provided the mother with food and diapers. We also signed her up for our holiday assistance program.

As she was preparing to leave, she noticed our coat rack. With the weather turning cooler, she mentioned that two of her children didn’t have coats. We were able to provide her with coats for each of her children, ensuring they would stay warm.

This young mother came in desperate for food and left with her arms full and tears in her eyes. She received not only food but also diapers, holiday assistance, a birthday bag, and coats for her children. Her gratitude was palpable, and her relief was evident.
